Welcome to our first installment of Soundtrack Sundays where we bring you some information on a chosen Disney song. This weeks choice is Lavender's Blue.

Lavender's Blue is an english folk song and nursery rhyme dating back as far as the 17th Century. There have been many different versions and variations of the lyrics and tune. Most recently the song is featured in Disney's Cinderella live-action film being sung between Cinderella and her mother, then later Cinderella singing it to herself.

  Lavender's blue, dilly dilly, lavender's green, When I am king, dilly dilly, you shall be queen. Who told you so, dilly dilly, who told you so? 'Twas my own heart, dilly dilly, that told me so.   Call up your men, dilly dilly, set them to work Some to the plow, dilly dilly, some to the fork, Some to make hay, dilly dilly, some to cut corn, While you and I, dilly dilly, keep ourselves warm.   Lavender's green, dilly dilly, lavender's blue, If you love me, dilly dilly, I will love you. I told myself, dilly dilly, I told me so.   If you have seen Cinderella already and recognised the song, you may have heard it from a previous Disney film. In 1948 the song was sung by Burl Ives in So Dear to My Heart. His version was nominated for the 1949 Academy Award for Best Original Song which helped make the song more popular.
